IPL HAIR REDUCTION

Intense Pulsed Light systems release precisely controlled strong pulses of filtered light that are absorbed by melanin, the pigment in hair.

This heats up the hair and destroys the cells responsible for hair growth, to achieve permanent hair reduction.

Liz Skin Care Clinic & Beauty uses the most technically advanced and TGA approved IPL machine on the market today. Treatments are fast and efficient and the integrated cooling system increases client comfort during treatment.

BEFORE YOUR TREATMENT

Shave the area to be treated 2 nights before. Avoid any method of hair removal 4 weeks prior to your IPL treatment. No sun beds, sunlight and fake tan 4 weeks before your treatment. Only shave in between treatments.

IPL Hair Reduction FAQs

WHAT IS INTENSE PULSED LIGHT (IPL)?

IPL technology involves the conversion of light into heat energy. IPL treatments can be likened to a powerful flash of light being held against the skin.

These light waves then target specific chromophores (colour pigments) such as melanin present in our hair without breaking the skin's surface.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN IPL AND LASER?

The biggest differences between laser and IPL, as far as treatment is concerned, are coverage and wavelength. The laser beam is very narrow, only covering a small spot at a time, while IPL coverage is several times the area. At the same time, the laser emits only a single wavelength of light, whereas an IPL uses a filter to cut off lower wavelengths. Each technology has their specific uses and advantages, which allows practitioners the ability to treat various indications

PERMANENT HAIR REDUCTION : HOW DOES IT WORK?

The IPL light is attracted to the melanin in the hair. As long as there is melanin in the hair the treatment will be effective. A water-based gel, similar to an ultrasound gel is applied to the skin to optimise the treatment. The IPL is applied to the skin and light energy passes through the applicator and is absorbed by the hair causing a heat reaction and destroying the follicle.

WHAT HAPPENS AT MY APPOINTMENT?

The most important part of treatment is your initial assessment, which is a comprehensive consultation to answer all your questions and to check that you have no contra-indications to treatment with the E075 IPL device.

The colour of your skin and the condition to be treated must be assessed, then a calculation is made to determine the appropriate setting. A patch test will be applied and we must wait to see the outcome. Some conditions only require a few minutes wait, while others will require a separate appointment of up to 48 hours after the test patch. It is very important to be honest about medications and your recent sun or UV exposure.

Clients with photosensitivity problems may develop some adverse reactions such as blistering or mild burning sensations. Your first test patch flash will be set on a low setting in order to avoid this
.

WHO CAN BE TREATED?

The treatment works with the melanin in the hair so as long as the hair is dark or has a dark root it can be treated. White hair, grey hair, red hair cannot be treated. Blond hair is more challenging than dark hair but as long there is melanin in the hair and the root is dark it can be treated. It is also important to remember that melanin is found in the skin which is why it is important to treat darker skinned clients and tanned clients with less intensity to avoid heat build-up in the skin. Black skin cannot be treated.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS WILL I NEED AND WHAT RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?

We recommend a course of 6 to 10 treatments initially and thereafter the customer may wish to have one or two top up treatments per year. Hair will become lighter and finer.
